Growing up as a child was hard for Joel Spence, being short sighted he didnt see the benefits of staying fit and healthy as a youngster and was classed as obese by the age of 13. At 16 Joel left high school, haunted by the bullying due to his weight and decided to go straight into work as opposed to facing another several years of potential bullying.
At 17 he was at his largest, following a year of comfort eating and lazyness - he reached 22st - his largest - seeing a picture of himself one new years eve, it was time to face up to the self destruction he had been eating his way to for the past 10 years and do something about it! He started leading a much more active lifestyle and managed to lose 6st in 6 months by making a few major changes to diet and exercise, making sure to not eat more than 2300 calories a day to start when previously he had been consuming 3-4000!
The weight loss gave Joel a major confidence boost which also expanded his social circles. Making friends who went to the gym, he decided to try it and found that he loved the experience - working hard and seeing real benefits. Although he had several relapses, wavering between 16st and 17st for a couple of years, this past year has seen Joel take a major focus.
Diet has been key "I started to read a lot of online forums and magazines such as Mens Health, the basic equation of fat loss is Diet - Carbs + Protein and Good fat = Lean body and this is what I switched to" Joel reduced his carb intake from around 250g per day down to around 50 and made sure he got atleast 2g per kg of body weight of protein per day. A strong supplement support regime was also key to Joel getting to the point he is at now - Down to 14st 7lb's after a year of hard work has seen joel drop 6inch's off of his stomach and 5 from his waist-line while maintaining the muscle he tried to hard to gain.
"I have just started my relationship with Body Exchange and Adam and Jules have been extremely supportive so far, I have been trialling their new Tec-Tonic protein ranges which prove to be fantastic and fit in perfectly with my Low carb diet - I still need to lose around a stone of fat and I believe that the added support is really going to help me rip it up after 7 years of hard work!"
Joel is highly motivated and ambitious and regularly blogs about his progress and how he has managed to lose almost 8st over the past 7 years while retaining his muscle mass - you can take a read of his blog here: http://howjozatrains.blogspot.com - he is always open to answering any questions and making recommendation's to those with goals of losing fat or bulking up.
In 2010 Joel will be trialling our new 12 week transformation plan - Plan BE and intends to finally reach his lean and toned body goals.
